The Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, launched his new initiative, Tshepo 500 000 in a well attended event in Ivory Park last Thursday, December 11th 2014. This initiative aims to provide 500 000 unemployed youth with employment opportunities within the next 5 years.These opportunities will comprise of jobs within the private sector and public sector, internships and entrepreneurial opportunities.
At the event, attendees were directed to register on the Lulaway platform in order to utilise the existing Job Centre infrastructure to reach the unemployed youth throughout the province
The Department of Infrastructure and Development is in charge of rolling out this initiative and will be working closely with Lulaway to identify the skills and skills shortages in the unemployed youth in Gauteng and subsequently match job seekers with opportunities that are relevant to their skills sets, as well as offer up-skilling programs for those lacking employable skills.
